Musings on Womb Work… by flic hopkins

I was posed a series of questions:

How does Womb Massage work on an energetic level, as a frequency medicine?

What is the impact I notice; what are the ripple effects?

Is there importance here in the role of healing individuals/families/bloodlines.

What is this magic, this women’s work?

I practice Womb Massage Therapy.

How does it work? Well, yes through physical touch, that much is obvious. But alongside our density, there is subtlety. There is a vibration to all matter, a unique frequency to all things, even rock, water, blood, bone.

Attention, intention and witnessing is just as important as touch in this field, this is complex, nuanced, sensitive work. The womb is the literal portal to the divine, to Spirit. She thickens, bleeds, sheds, repairs. She invites creation and is hospitable to life. She is the very centre of intuition and is the link to our grandmothers’ grandmothers before us. She is the origin of us all, our eternal home as a species.

There are many, many stories and threads woven in her complex Matrix.

Fun fact! Matrix = Womb or Source.

Origin: Matrix was a common Late Middle English word (in the sense ‘womb’): from Latin, mater, matr- ‘mother’.

There are real links to the ancestors in her warmth, especially the maternal line, of course. We, each of us, were once an egg in the womb of our grandmother, a tiny seed of potential.

So much is held and so much unspoken in women’s lives and within women’s connections to this incredible, deep, deeply feminine, private and sacred place.

Calling-in acknowledgement of the stories -acknowledgement of the wounds, the losses, the grief of life; and also the delights and pleasures afforded to us by our womb - can be medicine in and of itself. She holds our stories of shame, but she also holds our stories of joy, love, connection… and oddly these stories of beauty can be just as taboo to share in a culture that glorifies separation.

Does she have a frequency? Certainly. This work is hands-on, it is deeply of tissue, fascia, blood, tendon, adhesion, organ. It is also subtle, energetic, hands-off. There are lists and lists of health benefits and actions on the physical body, but truly the work seems to be simply to tune into the frequency, the vibration, the wisdom if you like, of the womb herself. To listen to her, be quiet with her, to allow her to expand into my hands.

This magnificent organ is able to evolve through the many incarnations of one lifetime, until she will eventually retire, if we are fortunate enough to age intact.

Indeed, she has many faces, as many phases as the moon herself. More.

For example, a postpartum womb has a unique frequency. And a post-ceasarean womb is different again.

After a hysterectomy, we work to tend the Energetic Womb, we acknowledge and welcome the remnant resonance of a creative and connected space, whilst integrating the experience of loss.

There is so much nuance here and indeed, all womb work is bespoke, is tailored, is in response to and is alive with whatever circumstances the woman’s life and body bring on that day. There can be remnants of old stories to be spoken, witnessed, acknowledged and released: stories around our sexuality, abundance, creativity, lack, identity, victimhood, adolescence, celebration or lack thereof, our very person hood.

There may be misalignment, prolapse, scarring, and this may be physical but the effect or force may be energetic. How are we misaligned in life? How does energy leak from our core when in relationship? How do we heal the negative self-talk planted so long ago by a culture that does not celebrate first blood? How does the moon phase under which we were born echo through our menstrual cycle our very personality?

As you can see, dear reader, there is a deep well here. Anchored all the way to the core of our being, indeed to the core of the Earth.

I have seen pain, shame, disgust and grief held in scar tissue, and then witnessed these complex feelings dissolve.

I have witness awakenings, mysteries solved, dots connected, tears shed, fear arise, deep rest received and in each case the more willingness there is to embark upon the journey, the more courage a woman can find to go deep, the more open curiosity to move layers of discomfort or challenge: the more gold can be wrought. The more healing can transpire.

Sensitivity can replace numbness, trust can replace fear, intuition can replace bewilderment as layers shed and curiosity grows.

And indeed all work links with the deity below our feet, the Great Mother.

The magic of this modality is always astonishing. It feels eternal, ancient. It feels like the work in the room ripples out to every woman, every child, every human. As we tend the great Creatrix within our tender human form, there are powerful ripples.

Ripples of healing, awakening, listening through the ages, bloodlines, communities and beyond. Women are offered a space of support and reverence, which I believe to be deeply medicinal for this moment in human history.

Take a moment, just now, with your own womb space. Your lower belly. Listen quietly. Can you feel the ripples?
