Castor Oil Packs
Castor Oil Packs are one of the most effective home treatments for fertility and health: especially beneficial for women with Endometriosis, Fibroids, Cysts, PCOS, blocked fallopian tubes and heavy or painful bleeds. It relieves congestion, dampness, and inflammation in the reproductive organs.
Castor Oil is derived from the bean of the Palma Christi plant. It has been used therapeutically for centuries in the folk medicine of ancient India, China, Persia, Africa, Greece, Italy and the Americas.
Castor oil breaks up adhesions and stagnation, while balancing the autonomic nervous system, increasing liver activity, and improving digestion. Castor Oil can also be used to reduce scar tissue build-up or adhesions resulting from C-section, Hysterectomy, Laparoscopy, and other abdominal operations, as well as internal masses such as Fibroids and Cysts.
Materials needed:
Wool flannel or cotton, an old-t shirt works just fine
Old towel to lie on and a hand towel
Plastic wrap - gladwrap or a plastic bag will do
Organic castor oil
Heating pad/hot water bottle
Blanket
Directions:
Prepare a comfortable and warm place to lie down and relax. Place a towel down in case of oil leakage.
Soak the flannel or cotton in the oil to make it well saturated but not dripping.
Place the soaked flannel over the area on the abdomen to be treated and cover with plastic wrap.
Place a small handtowel over the plastic wrap, then place the heating pad over that. If using a hot water bottle, be sure it’s not too hot.
You can cover yourself with a blanket or towel to hold the heat in.
Relax and breathe for 30-60 minutes. You should find this very relaxing. One can meditate or sleep, listen to quiet music. Be careful with the heating pad if you fall asleep!
Maintain the heat level throughout the treatment.
Castor oil is very penetrating and can stain bedding or clothing. Protect your fabric with old towels or plastic.
The soaked flannel can be re-used up to 25 times. Just store the oil-saturated fabric in the refrigerator in a sealed container or Ziploc bag. Remove ahead of time for next use to allow it to come to room temperature.
The castor oil may also be placed on the skin directly, then cover with plastic and heat as above. For constipation it may feel good to massage the belly with the oil in clockwise circles first and then apply the heat.
Notes:
A typical regimen for non-acute symptoms is three times a week, alternating days. Once a week or once a month may be used for maintenance needs.
It is recommended that you stay at home for a couple hours after the treatment, as it may induce bowel movements.
Place the pack on the liver for hormone balance, over the navel for digestion, or over the womb for reproductive health.
Leave the heat pack on for 20-45 minutes.
You may feel a slight tingling sensation - this is a good sign. If the heat pack feels too hot after a while, move it around until you’re comfortable again.
Remember you’re detoxing while you rest, so stay well hydrated throughout the process.
Ideally use the time to silently meditate into your organs or use a guided healing visualisation.
Castor Oil Packs are a simple and effective home remedy for pelvic wellness and a beautiful companion to Womb Massage Therapy
