Pelvic Steaming (also known as Yoni Steaming )

WHY TO STEAM

WHAT TO EXPECT

HOW TO STEAM
v Choose your organic herb (see a few examples below).
v Place the herbs in a pot with 2 Litres of lukewarm water, asking the herbs & water to help you heal.
v Bring to a gentle simmer with the lid on for 10 minutes, leave to cool for 10 minutes.
v Create your ceremonial steam space indoors or outside – whatever works for you – and make sure you will not be disturbed for about an hour or so.
v Pour your steam water into a large bowl (or crock-pot to retain heat in winter) and place under a modified chair or steam stool, or use the floor sitting method.
v Remove your clothes from the waist down, leaving your socks on, keeping your upper body warm and sit comfortably and open yourself up to the steam.
v Drape your lower body with blankets that extend all the way to the floor to ensure the steam is contained. Be careful not to burn yourself. If necessary, create a small vent to allow excess steam and heat to escape. Listen to your body.
v Sit over the steam for about 20 minutes, then dry off, dress warmly and rest quietly for another 20 minutes.
v Release the herbs and water back to the earth, giving thanks to the teacher plants.
AVOID SIDE EFFECTS
It’s very important that you take precautions to ensure your health and safety whenever you yoni steam. Here are a few important steps to take to avoid any potential yoni steam side effects and risks:
v If the steam is too hot, you could burn the sensitive vaginal tissues. Make sure when you sit/squat above the steam, you feel comfortable with the temperature of the steam and are not simply “bearing the heat”.
v Do not steam longer than 30 minutes.
v Make sure your pot and any other equipment you use are thoroughly cleaned before use to avoid unnecessary irritation and infection.
